Kunming City Sculpture Status Quo And Development

City sculpture is a kind of city heritage, the miniature of history and the exhibition of the spirit of the times, which is an important component of the modern urban and cultural construction. By its unique characteristics of art, artistic forms and artistic language, city sculpture displays the spirit of the modern civilization and reveals the narration of history and reality as well as the bright hope for the future.Along with the process of urbanization, China's city sculptures have been constantly improved, and their characteristics of the times, nationality, and geography are colorful and prosperous. But from the long process of urbanization, the several decades when China's city sculptures develop very rapidly are very short. They are still in the initial stage. The "evolutionary change" of city sculptures is imperfect, and there exist many problems worthy of discussion and study. Based on the in-depth study of the historical development and current situation of China's modern city sculptures, this paper explores the characteristics of sculptures, the types of city sculptures, and the classifications of the places where city sculptures are located from the perspective of arts, architecture, environment and the city planning, scientifically and comprehensively. And it concludes ten characteristics of city sculpture: the characteristics of modeling, space, vision, environment, publicity, art, time, mandatory of appreciation, uncertainty of meaning, and culture; six types of city sculptures: thematic city sculpture, city sculpture as logo, city sculpture for appreciation and decoration, urban-style sculpture, architectural sculpture, and city sculpture with interactive devices; and five types of places where city sculpture are located: natural place, traffic place, streets, public architectural place and occupational units.City sculpture edifies the virtue of people invisibly, enhances the cultural quality of people at while beautifies the living, and increases the cultural heritage. Sculptures are like visual interpretations of the city,and every sculpture in every period is like a static milestone of the development. The final sections mainly analyze and sum up the development process of Kunming city sculptures, make a comprehensive analysis on Kunming city sculptures, and divide the development of Kunming city sculptures into three stages. Meanwhile, the paper lists the catalog of the existing pictures of Kunming city sculptures and makes a detailed study and planning of the future Kunming city sculptures. Moreover, on the basis of researches and studies, it analyzes the cultural history of Kunming from a cultural point of view, which contributes to the planning of Kunming city sculptures and the urban as well as cultural construction of Kunming.
