This thesis is a research of Kim's film world ranging from his movies along with his experience in film industry.The thesis, apart from the introduction and conclusion, consists of two parts. Part 1: Three themes of Kim's movies—a review of Kim's movies from the perspective of art intension. Across all the movies of Kim Ki-duk, there are three main aspects in terms of narrative themes. They are the particular interest in history, politics and humanity; the deep introspection of Korean society, humanity and morality; and the ultimate caring of sin and redemption. The thesis, by reviewing Kim's own experience and his experience in film industry, reveals Kim's image as a director that uses his movie to reveal his concerns.Part 2: Art character of Kim's movie—a review of Kim's movie from the perspective of art. It includes: aphasia of the character, feminine implication, stunning movie terms, rhythm of the movie world and the personalized description in the camera images. The thesis also carries out the research on each aspect by combining Kim's real-world application of his director skills.Kim's movie is a perfect definition of the hybrid of European art movies philosophical analysis and oriental movie's colorful pictures. During the"style merging"process, the movie, on the one hand, shows the unique epochal perspective of Kim, and on the other hand, it shows the characteristics of localism, nationalism, regionalism as well as Kim's own characteristics. It is Kim's legendary life experience that pushes him creating his film world where he can express his opinions on the ultimate truth and purpose of mankind. As a result, Kim's movie never lacks the taste of philosophy. His movie, due to the descriptive method, is also categorized as"Author Movie". Under this"globalization"environment, Kim Ki-duk bears a strong conscious of nationalism. He, on the one hand keeps up with his special oriental movie charisma while on the other hand, keeps talking to the film industry through the international movie festivals.The thesis while exploring Kim Ki-duk's movies, also intend to analyze and explain some empirical characteristics of art movie creation, so that it would be of some help to the creation of art movie in China.
