Wang Tongzhao The Native Narrative And Cultural Significance

The modern Chinese local fiction is a brief folk evolutionary history during the great social changes in modern China. But for a long period of time, the folk cultural investigation in local fiction is neglected by many literary researchers. Things had been changed in recent years. Lots of the scholars began their folk cultural research on the local narrations of different areas, including eastern Zhejiang province, western Hunan province, Sichuan province, and east-northern China. But the research considering the works of Wang Tongzhao, a representative folk writer of Shandong province from 20s-30s of the last century, is still out of sight. The further and mini research on the folk cultural implication of Wang Tongzhao's local narration, is now eager and with great significance.As a writer who once paid his much more attention to the Chinese countryside society in early 20th century, Wang tried his best to interpret and promulgate the philosophic implication of the folks from everyday life of the ordinary people in the countryside. Wang was never only a researcher of the folk culture, and he was unsatisfied to lost himself in routine experience of the folk life, what he did is to try to promulgate and expose the cultural and philosophical meanings and implications of the abundant regional folks in northern China (mianly in Shandong province), just like lots of the other humanity scholars of his time. His life evaluation and aesthetic appreciation were deeply influenced by the folk cultures that come into his sight through his writer's experience. The regional and personal narrative styles in his works are the indications about the seeping on his local narrations. Using those ways or ways, the writer also tried to inform the readers the social changes, cultural significance and the symbolic hints of the regional folks.The full view and full screen illustrations considering cultural and natural scenes in Wang Tongzhao's local narrations gave us vivid pictures involving all aspects about the local experience, including daily laboring, wearing and feeding, housing, languages and dialects, beliefs, festivals, ceremonies, local games, and so on. As to Wang, all those are the symbols of the living patterns, characters and sprits of our Chinese nation. In Wang's view point ,as times pass by, those symbols will naturally be changed, or will disappear, but what is inside, that is ,the national sprits, characters and vitality will be forever.This paper tries to induce the literary patterns, styles, and ways that are used to express the folk cultural implication in local narrations in Wang Tongzhao's works in the view of the science of culture and anthropology. Furthermore, the author of this paper tries to evaluate and asses the national folk cultural significance of Wang's works in the history of local narration in modern China.This paper can be divided into the following three parts: 1^st ,clearing the folk cultural sense of the writer;2^nd,researching & investigating the national and historical cultural implication and significance under the symbols and the local figures and the inside national sprits in Wang Tongzhao's works;3^rd;analyzing the function and impact of folk culture in expressing the local figures, local ideas, and local scenes in this kind of narration or writing; and trying to concluding the concrete artistic methods in narrating with local dialects of the writer.
