Chinese And Malay Double Negative Sentence And Contrast

This research focus on the definition of negation. Specifically the definition of double negation. This study is based on grammatical studies.Double negative sentence is a very unique sentence. Double negative sentence uses two negation forms to express an affirmative meaning. This type of sentence expresses a difference confirmed mood compared to affirmative sentence. It shows an affirmative meaning with strong mood (emphatics) or mild mood (euphemistic).Double negative sentence is commonly used in both Chinese and Malay languages. As they are from different language families, double negative sentence presents in different form. The purpose of this study is to find out the similarities and differences of double negative sentence between these two languages.Grammarians argue the definition of double negative sentence. This study offers another definition of double negative sentence. Double negative sentence express an affirmative meaning. Using negative form twice will bring out affirmative meaning.The finding of this research shows that sentence in both languages are similar in pragmatic and difference in sentence structure. This study helps to analysis and compares morphology and sentence structure for both languages. This would facilitate learning Chinese and Malay languages more effectively.
