Corpus-based Eastern Taiwan Dialect Features Words The Interpretation

Dongtai (东台) dialect is one of the Jianghuai dialects mingled with the characteristics of North-South dialect. The research of Jiangsu dialect shows that the research work in dialects in the eastern coastal areas of Jiangsu (such as Nantong , Yancheng and Lianyungang) is relatively weak which has less dialect survey points and not board and deep enough. There existed few research works in Dongtai dialect, and only a small part of the works used the theory and methodology of contemporary dialectology.The main tasks of our research work include: 1.Developing a daily dialogue corpus of Dongtai dialect; 2.Segmenting the corpora and then counting the word frequency; 3.Analysis and interpret the characteristic words of Dongtai dialect. First, we defined the dialect survey points and objects combining the theory and methodology of sociolinguistics and conducted a continuous survey lasted 2 months.(2005.7-2005.8) to develop a voice corpus of Dongtai dialect. Then, we categorized and rewrote the voice files to test files(55 million Chinese words). After that, we made the segmentation, part-of-speech tagging and word frequency counting in the corpus, establishing the " Dongtai dialect words and word forms" and the " Dongtai dialect daily vocabulary frequency table". We did the analysis and paraphrasing of the specific dialect words in Dongtai dialect on the base of defining "specific dialect words", The methods in our research work include tools of corpus, field investigation, automatic segmentation statistics and vocabulary and semantic description.This paper which promotes the research work of dialect lexis has developed the first dialect corpus of Tongtai dialect and paraphrased the characteristic words of Dongtai dialect.
