Changyang Nanqu is an old folk art form in Hubei province. It mainly spreads in Tujia minority counties of Changyang and Wufeng in the southeast of Hubei. It has a very high reputation with its elegant lyrics, beautiful tones and special rhythms. The writer has researched the characteristics of the music itself, and the singing method to analyze and summarize it. The other aim is to research how the folk music develops in the local areas and how it reflects ethnology, science and artistry. The writer hopes that the research can be really useful for the teaching of the folk songs, the progress of the singing practice and the developing of the folk singing theories.The writer analyzes the historical sources, art features, singing methods, developing ways and aesthetic values by means of site survey, songs recording and enquiry analysis etc. The writer also has got the sensible knowledge, has developed the artist experience by joining in the practice of singing which forms the basic of this article and makes it possible for the further research.
