Urban Divorced Single-parent Family Members Of The Social Cognition Research

Cognition is the foundation of behaviors. The social cognition of thepeople in the divorced families is the key factors deciding their behaviors.So to solve the problems of the divorced single-parent families, the workshould start from their social cognition.The study bases on the research of 61 divorcees and 62 adolescentsfrom the divorced single-parent families, which shows that: 1. Thedivorcees and their children find no apparent differences in thepsychologies and abilities before and after divorce. 2. The divorcee andtheir children find no discriminations from public opinions, originalfamilies, friends and associates. 3. The divorcees and their children'family schema and the cognition of the divorcing family lives have someerrors.The divorcees and their children' cognition error to the divorcedfamilies is the consequences of schema, emotion and attribution, whichcauses the "self-deprivation" inside the families. The deprivationbehaviors are reflected in the divorcees' deprivation towards theirchildren's needs of family and love, the rights of knowing the inside storyof divorce and the non-keepers' keeping the parent duties.The study embraces two major features: one is study the problems ofdivorced families from the viewpoint of social psychology, i. e. findingthe reasons resulting in divorced family problems via studying thecognition errors of divorced family members and the self deprivationcaused by cognition errors; the other is that the study is oriented towardsthe self defined social cognition, i.e. to regard the divorced familymembers, specially the divorcee as persons with agency——not study onthem, but study with them.The importance of the study is that it surpasses the previous way ofstudying the divorced families with emphasis on the external negativecriterion, and makes a close scrutiny into their innermost feelings throughexploring their cognition in cognition system of divorced family members,hence to put forward an analytic framework for the divorced familymembers" cognition errors causing divorced family problems, so that one can grasp the unique root of problems, and provide reference for solvedivorced family problems, specially the problems of adolescents indivorced families.
