The Eternal Model And The Disappearance Of Artists

This is a case study about a female artist. Elizabeth Siddal was a Victorian woman. She entered the art world established by some talented artists. Yet her identity was complex. At first, she was a model, and gradually she rounded into an artist too. Sadly, she was rewritten and forgotten. I want to reveal her special aspect as an artist again and analyses the problem: why the female artist was forgotten.I combine a number of methodological approaches: sociology, psychology, iconography and style analysis, etc.I review the growing process and the vocations of Siddal, analyze her characteristics, search her internal heart, and try to find out what caused her artist identity been forgotten.Firstly, I put the heroine in the special era: Victorian era, which controlled her firmly. Secondly, I research the careers of Siddal, and analyze her primary works. At last, I analyze the main reason and pronounce my conclusion. The second chapter and the last chapter are more important. After the analysis, I suggest that it is the mainstream ideology in the patriarchy society forgot this artist intentionally. Patriarchy society look on female as implement which can be used to satisfy masculine. Man like and love woman because this can prove their virile authority and enchantment, not because they respect woman. In man's opinion, if a woman is useful to man, she is valuable, or she will have no value. And because woman is goods, she has no creativity. Normally, woman is passive and weak in every aspect. Even some women paint and write, they are the unskilled copyist still. This point of view wants to argue that man I is more superior and creative than woman.This is the ultimate reason why Siddal's identity of artist was forgotten.
