Archetypal Interpretation, Faulkner

Under the environment of the decline of the south aristocratic family, a series of archetype character was molded by Faulkner.From Faulkner's "archetypal tools" and combining the specific cultural context of the 20th century,this paper analysises the causes and deep meanings of the archetype images. Meanwhile, combining the traditional culture of south American,this paper associates mythological archetype with history and the era of ties.Faulkner then revealed the term "person" using archetype. In contrast with the ugly character, Faulkner molded an outstanding character of fearless and tenacity.Through the irony of "archetypal tools" and the contrast between faith and reality,Faulkner tried to remind of the mistakes of modern people, in order to critic and construction ,and to show the wasteland of the entire western world's culture.Chapter 1 : This part makes a visual huge viewing of Faulkner`s archetype community. From the large number of Faulkner `s entries, we can see that maybe he used the archetype character unconsciously,but it is these internal structures that compose of the skeleton and soul of Yoknapatawpha.The use of archetype characters not only opens up a space for art and transfered the human spirit,but also expands the aesthetic value of the works and says the public's expressed wishes.Chapter 2 : Analysising the mythological archetype of Faulkner's major works , this paper concretely reflects the various mythological archetype, such as Christian archetype, Eve archetype ,Eden archetype ,Wandering archetype, incest archetype , ancestors archetype, as well as snakes, water, fire and other archetype imageries. They have a deep metaphorical meaning. Huge mythological archetype system supports the whole of Yoknapatawpha, and this chapter is the foundation of thesis raising for the second half.Chapter 3 : Integrating with the history and tradition, this chapter makes a deep criticism. When the old order obstacled the social development, Faulkner acutely awared of the spiritual crisis at the time, human selfishness and cruelty did as a catalyst for the decline of the south family. Then, he depicted many ugly image, to contrast with the lofty image in the Archetype that would serve as a warning to the role.Archetype is not a haven for escaping from reality , but a sad contrast to the modern frame of reference. People can learn from our mistakes, and criticism is a proper development. The "myth" times of southerners went away, they must explore the way forward.Chapter 4 : This part reflects the destiny of humanity using Archetype, and tries to construct the faith of living. The unique characteristics of ancestor worship southerners gives them historical responsibility heavyly and distinctly. Archetype bears the function of memory there. Faulkner's attention to the excellent quality of the mold created a living faith in his literary world.Summary : This paper tries to expose the illness of society through Archetype to show the writer`s unique attitude. As a southern writer, William Faulkner had distinct sense of responsibility to history.Based on "the size of stamps homeland,"He had created an everlasting legend with his broad vision and great awareness.
