Returnees Figure In Modern Chinese Fiction

Referring to the history both inside and outside the novel, the thesis"Overseas Returnees in Chinese Modern Novel"takes the overseas returnees as study object, regards the obligations of overseas returnees to our country as basic values, studies in the mode of"go and return".Since the early 20th century to the end of 1940's, the trend of studying abroad in China goes on, following Western Learning Spreading to the East in the Late Qing Dynasty, of which varies of overseas returnees appeared. Then there was the creation for the theme of overseas returnees in the modern novel. The differences of their leaving and returning can be found through analyzing the overseas returnees in the mode of"go and return". Due to different purposes and appeals, these overseas returnees emerged differentiation in category. We can discover the different experiences in the mixed environment of feudalism and modernity by putting these people back into the historical background with modern literature experience. Their experiences are tragedies and difficulties for these overseas returnees, so are for that times, whose core is what the correspondence did they assume for their own country on earth and whether they neglected their duty. At last we draw a conclusion that the overseas returnees took on a great responsibility for the state indeed, of course there are negligence of duty.
