| The purpose of this paper is to analyze the overseas returnees? identity construction from the perspective of Critical Discourse Analysis and explore the hidden ideology of People's Daily(overseas edition)by researching the news reports of returnees in People's Daily(overseas edition).By employing overseas returnees as the key word,the thesis takes 15 news reports about overseas returnees in People's Daily(overseas edition)from 2014 to 2020 as corpora.It uses Fairclough?s three-dimension model as the theoretical framework,and focuses on the identity construction of returnees.The research concentrates on the following aspects:(1)Description: the paper explores the linguistic features of People's Daily(overseas edition)on the overseas returnee group news reports from the perspective of transitivity and modality.The study finds that the reporters embed positive attitude towards overseas returnees by using different transitive processes and modal auxiliary verbs.(2)Interpretation: the paper studies the intertextuality of overseas returnee?s news reports through news sources and reporting modes.The study finds that the difference of the specific division of news reporting modes and news sources indicates the ultimate goal of language selection is to serve the values and ideology behind the news,People's Daily(overseas edition)on the overseas returnee group news reports focus on expressing the Chinese government?s recognition and support for overseas returnees.(3)Explanation: the paper reveals the ideology hidden in the overseas returnee reports by analyzing the domestic economic,political,historical and cultural environment.The reporter mainly wants to make readers realize that under the guidance of favorable government policies,the returnees have played a very important role in China?s modernization development.The thesis indicates that(1): People's Daily(overseas edition)has a positive attitude towards the overseas returnee group.It focuses on overseas entrepreneurship and employment,and has constructed a group of overseas returnees who are courageous,entrepreneurial,talented,down-to-earth and patriotic.(2): People's Daily(overseas edition)attracts more overseas Chinese to return to China to start their businesses and employment by reporting on the status quo of overseas returnee?s development in China?s favor development environment.The research significance of this article is mainly through exploring the identify construction of overseas returnees in People's Daily(overseas edition),allowing us to better understand the hidden ideology behind the news,so that we can understand the overall appearance of overseas returnees? entrepreneurship,down-to-earth work,dedicated research and strong patriotism,rather than being affected by a small number of negative news reports. |
