Negation is a complex and multidimensional concept including logical negation, ethical negation, linguistic negation, etc.The first chapter mentions various concepts of negation and the cross-relationships between them. It mainly describes linguistic negation including further discussion of its connotation, through which the scope of this paper is defined——the cross section of negative expressions in morphology and semantics.Because of the difference of the ways of description and features of grammar between Chinese and Japanese, negation expressions' features also appear differently. This paper does systematic analysis and contrastive research on negative expressions in Chinese and Japanese within the scope defined in Chapter 1.The main parts of this paper are Word Negation in Chapter 2 and Sentence Negation in Chapter 3.Regarding Word Negation, the paper analyzes the different word formations in Chinese and Japanese while using negative adverbs/prefixes such as 'bu' 'wu' 'fei'' 'wei' 'fou' through using numerous examples, and analyzes the general principle that when Japanese words which have negative prefixes to be translated into Chinese.Regarding Sentence Negation, focusing on the complexity of tense and aspect expressions in Japanese, the two languages are taken into the same tense and aspect environment to be contrastively researched, and a Chinese-Japanese contrastive list was formed. On the other hand, focusing on the complexity of possible expression, Chinese-Japanese possible expression of negation are also analyzed contrastively.Negative expressions besides the cross section of negative expressions of morphology and semantics of Chinese and Japanese are mentioned in Chapter 4.
