Liang Chung-dai is one of the experts in poetics with distinct personality. His poetic theory centered in symbolism and constructed in 1930s impels the process of the modernization of modern Chinese poetry. He works on the construction of theory with the identity of a poet. He dedicates to exploring the aesthetic characteristics of the poetry and the secret of creation and appreciation, especially in the valuable exploration in the ontology of poetry. The paper tries to discover the basic appearances and features of Liang Chung-dai's poetic theory targeted on his"Poems and Purity·Poems and Purity 2nd volume"and other scattered reviews. The ultimate purpose is to provide the communication of Chinese and Western poetics with some references and examples. Two basis of the paper are Liang's identity of poet and the interaction with his theory construction, and the convergence of Chinese and Western poetics under the background of modern Chinese literature.The paper consists of seven parts, including introduction, text of five chapters and conclusion. Based on the retrospect of Liang Chung-dai's poetics study, the introduction part points out that his poetic theory has two aspects, the essence of practice and surpass, and the surpass manifests the constant concern of the ontology of the poetry and the approval of the transcendence of symbolism. The first chapter mainly concerns the interaction of Liang Chung-dai's poetry creation and theory by brief summary of his poetry creation together with his life experience. The following three chapters organize Liang Chung-dai's poetic theory in terms of ontology, pure poetry and vision of poetry respectively, and analyze some important concepts, such as truth, conformity, pure poetry, symbol and sublime. Chapter five discusses the function and status of Liang Chung-dai's poetic theory in the development of modern poetics from the ideal of aesthetics, mode of criticism and method of creation and seeks the origin and future of his poetic theory by comparing with some other experts of poetics and their poetic theory. Finally, the paper points out the constructing strategy of the communication between Chinese and Western poetics of Liang Chung-dai's poetic theory and its significance.
