In attempt to understand the ethnic literature and ethnic characteristics, its history andliterary background should be comprehended in the first place, and then trace its root in theliterary works. As the Korean population who immigrated into China, its writers have beenexploring the life of their ancestors at the primary stage of the immigration and at the same timetrying to trace back its ethnic root from the culture and history aspect.Amidst the literature of Korean Chinese, there are thousands of topics concerning the lifeafter the Liberation War and Reform and Opening-up Policy, but few of them really reflect theexploration of the origin of the Korean nation, the history of immigration, and the hardship ofprimary stage of immigration. Li Genquan and Cui Hong, as the outstanding Korean writers,reveal the living conditions and the formation process of the Korean population at the early timeof immigration through the saga novels: Hardship to the Age shed and Tears at the BeansOmarjan, which both depict the miserable history of the immigrants, thus helping set up thefoundation of immigration literature as well as New Era literature.Both of the works were created based on their philosophy and artistic perspectives, whichwere developed during over thirty years' life experience and practice. The writing techniquefollowed the principle of socialistic realism after our nation's Emancipation, when thecombination of realism and romanticism was admired greatly. It is undeniable that this writingtechnique remains drawbacks and limitations, but its advantages and rationality should not beignored; it plays a considerably significant role in Chinese ethnic literatureThis thesis starts with the ethnic characteristics of works of the two writers. First, it discussesthe formation and development of Korean population in China and furthermore analyzes thehistory of Korean immigration literature and its influence. Second, the thesis explains the ethniccharacteristics of immigration works. Lastly, the various psychological changes and charactersdisplayed at the different social stages and social environment are analyzed. By using acomparative research approach, the thesis focus on these two writers' works, attaches importanceto their common features and ethnic characteristics of New Era immigration literature and analyzes their great value and significance. Meanwhile, giving the comparison and exploration oftwo works of the same era and the same literary style, the thesis aims to the show the livingconditions and environment at the primary immigration of Korean population as well as the ethniccharacteristics and influence of the immigration literature.
