The due status of adjectives in the Chinese vocabulary system has once been questioned. Up to now, this problem has almost been resolved. But academic differences still exist on many issues of adjectives, a rich and complex vocabulary, one of which was the ability of adjectives carrying objectives. In this paper, based on the Chinese language and "Modern Chinese Dictionary (fifth edition)"(2005), an exhaustive inspection of adjectives that can carry objectives is given in order to reflect the true situation of the adjectives that may carry objectives in modern Chinese, meanwhile explore the mechanism of generation of this linguistic phenomenon, enhancing the objectivity, scientific and procedural of grammar research. In the first chapter, past researches are reviewed to specify the key point of our study. Chapter 2 focuses on the analysis of the syntactic characteristics of the adjectives -objectives structure. Taking into account the difference of objective carrying ability between mono and double syllable adjectives, studies on mono-syllable and di-syllable adjective-objective structure were carried out respectively. In chapter 3 adjectives objectives that may form adjective-objective structure were discussed, further more semantic features of the structure were analyzed. On the basis of this analysis the choice discrimination on objectives of semantic adjectives were discussed. A special subset of the adjectives, psychological adjectives, and their objectives were also summarized and explained. The mechanism of generation of adjective-objective structure was investigated from two perspectives, semantic functional level and syntactic features. Syntactic and semantic difference between the structure were explored then in chapter 4.This paper describes the facts to prove that in modern Chinese language some adjectives can carry objectives. Through research, we have made a clear and comprehensive understanding of the syntax and semantic characteristics of adjective-objective structure. The study plays a very important role in language teaching, especially foreign language teaching. Meanwhile, we also developed our own views whose reliability has yet to be confirmed through further research.
