This paper is aimed at the studies of the compound adjectives consisting of a verbal morpheme and a nounal one, which are in a verb-object construction.Relying on the theories of metaphor and metonymy, qualia theory and conception integration,we want to analyse the meaning of this type of adjectives cognitively, that is to say,how such a type of words generate their meanings dynamically and the features behind the generation.First of all,we have described the lexical features both of the verbal and nounal morphemes.Besides, the semantic construction is also describes fully. Then,we have paid attention to the cases of metaphor and metonymy in such adjectives. We have grouped these cases according to some rules. After the cases description and classification,we’ve also tried to explore the reasons behind the phenomenon. At last, based on the qualia theory and concept integration theory,we present the dynamic process of generating the meaning. What’s more,we’ve made a statistical analysis of the specific qualia roles being stimulated and connect the qualia roles to the semantic roles of the verbal morphemes to conclude the cognitive features of generating the meaning. This is also the most important part in this paper.
