Resultative Verb Verb Sentence Study

Verb-copying sentence is a much special sentence pattern in Modern Chinese, what's the most characteristic is that the predicate verb repeatedly appears twice in the structure. Previously and nowadays it was made a lot of studies, but the studies focused on the marked verb-copying sentence mostly, the unmarked verb-copying sentence very little. The object of this paper is V-R (Verb-Result complement) verb-copying sentence, the unmarked verb-copying sentence whose complement is result complement(RC). Based on the meaning of RC, from the aspects of semantic characteristic, comparison between sentence patterns and the reason of occurring , this paper provides a thorough and detailed study on V-R verb-copying sentence to reveal it's characteristics and make up for the shortcomings in previous studies.Expect for introduction and conclusion, there are four chapters in this paper.Chapter 1 The semantic characteristics of V-R verb-copying sentence: This chapter classifies the V-R verb-copying sentence by the meaning orientation of RC, and analyzes the characteristics of complement of different kinds of V-R verb-copying sentence and semantic relation between two verb phrases.Chapter 2 The comparison between V-R verb-copying sentence and Ba/Bei sentence: Using the method of sentence transform in structuralism, this chapter makes a study on that different kinds of V-R verb-copying sentence can be changed to Ba/Bei sentence or not and how to be changed, and reveals the change conditions and modes between them, and then analyzes the functional differences between them from the aspect about that weather they need to be changed.Chapter 3 two kinds of special V-R verb-copying sentence: This chapter discusses two kinds of special V-R verb-copying sentence, namely V-R verb-copying sentence whose RC is noun phrase and V-R verb-copying sentence whose RC is followed by another object.It discusses the characteristics of two kinds of special V-R verb-copying sentence by analyzing the characteristics of complement, the characteristics of O2, the semantic orientation of complement as well as the change between V-R verb-copying sentence and Ba/Bei sentence.Chapter 3 The reason of occurring V-R verb-copying sentence: Using the theory of three dimensions for reference, this chapter examines the reason of occurring V-R verb-copying sentence.
