Alice Walker is a famous modern Afro-American woman writer. Her novels were based on the life of Southern Negroes and paid especial attention to the Afro-American female's survival condition, paying attention to their misery and struggle. Because they suffered from the racialism and gender discrimination, Walker had been studying about the harmonious co-existence (Survival Whole)society status, and proposed the original "womanism" theory, to symbolize realization of whole people's wholeness and survival including man and woman by purple.The paper is divided into three parts. In the first part, it elaborates Walker's literature writing under dual edge status. In the second part, it elaborates the similarities and differences between womanism and the feminism. In the third part, it carries on the explanation to the purple's cultural symbol significance; by the text analysis method, it explains that purple is the symbol of harmonious society and the difficulties in realization.
