As China opens further up to the outside world, English is playing an ever more important role in boosting local export economy and has already aroused great domestic enthusiasm for English learning. As a result, English training has become a hot topic everywhere in nowadays China.Through personal experiences in teaching pupils and middle school students English in his home town during summer vacations from 2003 to 2005, the author has noticed that training can be hampered from effects to a great degree by motivational problems.The author has put forward in this thesis the idea of a learner-centered, three-layer model for designing learning activities in training settings. This model divides training environment into three layers: school, class and team, reflecting respectively relations between management and subjects, teachers and learners, and that of learners, and connects them with efficient communication channels as well as ample meaningful situations for learning activities. Learners are expected to get motivated by participating in these activities.The model has been partly tested in previous training experiences and revealed some positive results. Though initially designed for learners in my training school, the model can be applied to adult English training too.
