Dong Xiwen, as one of the first artists who advocated nationalized arts and combined it perfectly with the artistic practice, his academic status is very important. His artistic thought which represents the artistic consciousness of his age, is typical. Nowadays, the relevant literatures in the market about Dong Xiwen are relatively few, so we need to strengthen the words, carry on particular academic analysis and pay more attention to it.Dong Xiwen devoted his whole life into the unremitting pursuit of achieving the national custom of oil painting, and has achieved remarkable artistic achievement in this domain. His work was endowed with both the spirit of the age and the Chinese style. He advocated creative education in the artistic practice, innovated on the basis of nationalized oil painting and carried on the compatible attempt of the aesthetic meaning and techniques of eastern and western arts.
