The wide spreading of Tangka has a close relation with the life experience of nomads. The Tibetans live with their cattle and sheep on the vast and desolate high ground and they keep moving with the rolled Tangka as a carrying universe. With the developing of tourism in Tibet, changes have taken place in the traditional drawing of Tangka, and they are being taken more attention by people. More and more Tangka workshops have appeared in Barkhor Street, Lhasa and have turned into a certain size. There're some procedures and special requirements for the traditional Tangka drawing, but will the new Tangka workshops influence the traditional drawing of Tangka? What are these effects? The present thesis take Tangka in Barkhor Street as the research objective, much demonstration has been done to the development condition of Tangka in Tibet, the developing and changing trend, and the influence of commercialization and multiculturalism on Tangka.The author believes that the present Tangka creation is in a much embarrassed situation, for the inheritance ritual and religion charm behind it is disappearing. As a nationalized cultural art form, just like other artwork, every Tangka work has two attributes that is it is not only works of art, but also commodities; they have artistic value and commodity value. The modern transformation of Tangka art should show the unique cultural implication within Qinghai-Tibet Plateau during the interaction with commerce. People are shocked and also enjoying the power, the mystery, the implication, or exquisite which Tangka brings to us. The value of Tangka art lies in its unique which is the base to dialogue with the multicultural art.
