Research And Analysis Of The Chinese Traditional Food Processing Equipment Design

Traditional cereal processing equipments, an important component of Chinese traditional implements, occupy the important position in Chinese several thousand years' history of civilization, closely bound up with human life. With forefathers' cognition amplification of nature, the higher requirement is proposed to dietetic deliciousness. Therefore, the invention and perfectment of cereal processing equipments reflects the Material Making design thought of human being in farming economy time. The cereal processing equipment is a broad category, so this topic centralizes on the research of several typical traditional implements, e.g. mills, pestles for hulling rice, rollers, etc. On the basic of research and analysis of these cases, distinctness and non-distinctness among them is explored, and their own art design value is discovered. This paper is divided into five chapters. In chapter one, the background, method and meaning of the topic research is introduced. In chapter two, the categorizing relationship among cereal processing equipments is clarified, research objects are specified, and their historical development and evolution is stated. In chapter three, after several typical cases are selected as research objects, several search aspects are analyzed, such as implement design structure, function, material and visual effect and so on, where exploration of drive mechanism for usage of natural energy is highlighted. In chapter four, design consciousness reflected by traditional cereal processing equipments is discussed in reference to the two research levels: design idea and design esthetics. Chapter three and four is the keystone in this thesis. In the last chapter, a conclusion is given, discussing two concerns: one is design thought behind traditional cereal processing equipments, the other is sameness on design level between these selected equipments and others Chinese traditional implements.
