A Translation Report On Heinz (China) Foshan Infant Rice Cereal Factory Project Phase Ⅰ Technical Bidding

With the development of globalization, the world economy is becoming increasingly closer. The international engineering bidding as an important text is the key point for the general construction project. So there are a lot of needs for translation of international engineering bidding, which has occupied the main shares in the translation market.This is a Chinese-English translation report of technical bidding document for the Consortium of Guangzhou GDE Engineering Co. Ltd&Sichuan No.6Construction of Huashi Group Co., Ltd for Heinz United Food Enterprise-Heinz Foshan infant rice cereal factory project phase I. The bidding is the practical writing with numerous technical terms. Due to the huge difference between the technical bidding and general English, the translator has adopted the Functional Equivalence theory to apply the acquired translation techniques to translation practice, trying to keep the style of the source text.There are4chapters in the report. Chapter1makes a general introduction to the background of the international technical bidding, including the background, the theory foundation, aims and significance of the project. Chapter2analyzes the features of language and structure in the English version of technical bidding, including the source version, the main contents of the source and the language analysis. In Chapter3, the translator summarizes and concludes the difficulties and focuses of the bidding translation, especially the abbreviation of terminology, the consistency of language style, and the tense and voice of translation. The translator also analyzes the applied translation methods and techniques, including conversion, division, combination and addition, etc.. Finally, the last part is about the unsolved problems in the practice and the guide for the future work and life of the translator.Through the translation practice, especially the comparison between the Chinese and English technical bidding on lexicon, syntax and discourse, the translator has acquired the language features and translation strategies of technical bidding. Those experiences can provide profound bases for the translator working on the writing and translation of technical bidding in the future. The English version of the project can provide other tender translators with some references.
