Walter Pater ,a representative aestheticism critic of the nineteenth century in England.He elevated aestheticism into the rank of science and advocated conception of "art for life'sake",namely,treated life with manner of art .It established the academic foudation of aestheticism.Pater' aesthetic thought brought on wide influence for subquent literary fresh-men,for example,Oscar Wilde repected Pater as hierophant,whereas,his comprehension and illstration of Pater's aestheticism was differed from Pater's own intention,which led offspring permanent misunderstanding.Pater regarded aesthetic sense as exclusive, important experience,and the main manner that get rid of vulgar utility persuit,"To burn always with this hard,gemlike flame to maintain this ecstasy",is successful in life. Plato's mentalism philosophy,Germany classical aesthetics in the nineteenth ,France aestheticism and so on,shaped the peculiar literary theory which seemed to unclear,fancy,mystic and impressional.The text exerts to combs the source,inheritance,development and influence of Pater's aesthetic thoughts, that is to say, Germany classical aesthetics thoughts,France representative character Baudelaire and Gautier's"art for art's sake"; Pater put forward sensualism,epicurean and momentory in a creative way,comprehended the unique art by contemplation,which made great contributions to aestheticism;Wilde accepted and misappehended the thoughts in the background of consumerism.
