The thesis selects"Yellow River", one of China's most influential piano concerto to elaborate, in an attempt to read this work from multi points of view by analysing its historical documents and musical notations deeply. In view of this consideration, the writer adds her unique view and mode of thinking while explaining the significance of the concerto, to explore the profound aesthetic value and modern meaning of the work, achieving mastery of the techniques as well as being immersed in the"soul"of music, and forms her own style in performing. After exploring the essence of music and music works, it is not hard to discover that music is part of human culture, and if we want to reveal the mystery of music, we should restore it to the sphere of human culture. For this reason, the text adopts a comprehensive research approach of multi-angles and multi-diciplines, in order to break through the inherent and limited research model and train of thought, putting the research of"Yellow River"into a broader culturalbackground and using the theoretical fruit of geology, literature and politics, to provide for the performers a text for reference, which is not only restricted to the music score. The text has five chapters, which begins with discussing the selection of subject matters, and then proceeds to analysing the concerto's substances and surveying its style, reading its aesthetic value and profound significance from a new angle, finally to make the performers be more competent. The first chapter deals with the selection of subject matters. The composer chooses Huang He, which is of special significance to Chinese people, as the object to express his emotions, this, itself, adding to the possibility of the work's great success. It can be called that"well selected is half done". The second chapter explains, from the point of content and form, the work's composition, harmony and artistic expression. The third chapter is an omniscient survey of the concerto's style. By combining the styles of nationalism, romaticism and realism,"Yellow River"is a synthesis of different styles and has its unique characteristics. The forth chapter focuses on the work's deep meaning, which deals with aesthetics and cultural connotation. Seeing through the appearance to perceive the essence, this makes substantial preparation for the deep comprehension of the work. The fifth chapter, from the point of practising, sums up the techniques in performing and exposites the soul of the work. Only by combining the skills and the passion can we truly express the soul of music while performing the concerto.Among others,"Yellow River"differs with other westen concertos of the same subject in that it is strongly Chinese-characteristics in theme as well as in form and skill. The writer just seizes this"Chinese-complex"that permeated in the whole work as her object, mentioning the main points, and makes every effort to have a better understanding of this classics which is most representive of Chinese concertos.
