Taking a wide view on modern fine art history, we may find that May 4th is the period during which the Chinese fine art has the greatest changes. The fine art of this period gave birth to the Chinese fine art of the whole 20th century, and its evolution and the development brought the modern fine art into a dilemma."New Culture Movement"was an enlightenment movement in thought and culture in Chinese modern history, being the important content of social cultural form, the fine art has been brought into the trend of this age .the initiator of the new culture movement held high the banner of"the fine art revolution"as well as that of"the literature revolution"and led to a vigorous new art movement in the modern history. Under the guide of scientific spirit, the artists of this age broke through the tie of the convention, and advocated imitating nature, sketching real object, and reflecting objective and made the popular realism art the main melody of the times, which has a far-reaching influence on the development of the Chinese fine art. How to treat tradition? Persistence in conventions, wholesale westernization has been considered and commented at the beginning of the May 4th movement, the idea of"realism reform Chinese paintings"is an originator or pioneer was disputed extensively, which caused the appearance of discussions diverting from the topic. In this paper the author tries to observe the fine art of this period through the"power"view of the French philosopher Michel Foucault, and to prove that"scientific discipline"make"realism reform Chinese paintings"become power discourse, which direct the formation of the May 4th fine art and put emphasis on the exploration of the Chinese painting modernity.Michel Foucault is the pioneer of the postmodernism group. His thought is odd and unique, but profound and has a wide influence. he built his theory frame from a unique perspective, in the western countries, Michel Foucault was called power philosopher. From the 1970s, Foucault diverted his research method from archaeology to genealogy. In the period of archaeology,he focused his research on the mutual-independent discourse practice, while in the period of genealogy, he mainly put emphasis on the study of power operation. he considered power as a kind of relationship, network and field, and treated it as non-subjective and uncentral. He emphasized the truth is the result of power discourse formation. This theory enlightened me to observe from a new point of view the May 4th fine art.This paper is divided into three parts, the first part is the introduction to Michel Foucault's power discourse theory. The second part expounds the formation of the scientific discipline in the period of May 4th movement in China, then analyzes the inner system of"realism reform Chinese paintings"growing into power discourse. The review to the history text is to enlighten the answer to realistic questions. The third part of this paper is on the basis of reflecting to the enlightenment discourse and a revolution of fine art, which gave a brief answer to the modernity of Chinese paintings, that is the consciousness of the Chinese context and the mind of dissimilarity in harmony.
