Dong Guan Han Kee Study

Dong Guan Han Ji is contemporary history of Eastern Han,compiled for more than 100 years by the Eastern Han Dynasty scholars,which is also the first official history. Dong Guan Han Ji once had important position in Chinese historiography, paralleling with the Shi ji and Han Shu in Chinese history. The several historical records of Eastern Han Dynasty are all originated from Dong Guan Han Ji. But this book was not preserved during its coming down from Eastern Han dynasty, which are lost completely during the Yuan Dynasty. There is quite few research to this book in the past Dynasties. The research to this book in Modern times is mainly in the collection, making specific studies about the authors,the framwork and the content of Dong Guan Han Ji. There are no thorough research to the documentary value of this book.The thesis endeavors to make an evaluation from the compilation ,the spread,the content and the documentary value of the book on the basis of the previous studies, attempting to make a comprehensive evaluation about the book.The thesis has four parts:The first part is about the compilation of Dong Guan Han Ji. There is a large scale of the compilation of Dong Guan Han Ji, lasting more than 100 years from the period of Emperor Ming to the last years of the Eastern Han Dynasty. A large number of scholars participated in the compilation. The previous research of Dong Guan Han Ji is also concentrated in this field. Based on the previous research, this part endeavors to make a further reorganization of the compilation, attempting to propose the new views on the problems which have not been reached agreement on or been paid attention to. Under the condition of Dong Guan Han Ji lost, the systematical study on its compilation does great favor to our understanding its format and content.The second part is related to the spread of Dong Guan Han Ji, organising the spreading process from the Eastern Han Dynasty to now. And the author pays more attention to the position changes in the historiography. The third part is related to the collection of Dong Guan Han Ji. Dong Guan Han Ji is lost from the Sui-Tang Dynasty, and disappears until Yuan Dynasty. Somebody began to collect it from the Qing Dynasty. There are three important collections at present, Dong Guan Han Ji(Eight volumes)by Yao Zhiyin in the Qing Dynasty, Dong Guan Han Ji(Twenty four volumes)by official of Si Ku in the Qing Dynasty, and Annotation of Dong Guan Han Ji by Wu Shuping. It is an important access to Dong Guan Han Ji at present. This part gives a systematical and contrastive analysis on the three collections above mentioned. So that it can show you the book as original as possible, and provide the valuable materials for the utilization and study of Dong Guan Han Ji.The forth part researches into the documentary value of Dong Guan Han Ji, whose value is mainly on it history records, which provides plenty of detailed history records for the people of aftertime. At present,there is still no special article to study its documentary value systematically. Dong Guan Han Ji is the basic reference for other historical records of Eastern Han Dynasty. It preserves plenty of detailed and reliable original materials, which gives new reference for the study of Eastern Han Dynasty. On the condition that history records of Eastern Han is in shortage, Dong Guan Han Ji can compare with other history books recording history events of Eastern Han dynasty or make up each other.
