The musical reputation of Hugo Wolf rests primarily on his 245 publishied songs . Nobody was such a coherent and thorough songwriter as Hugo Wolf . His five collections demonstrate how closely absorbed he became in a poet's work . The first was devoted to Eduard Morike(1804-75). In this book, wolf had at his disposal a highly colorful, expressive harmonic palette: dissonant, chromatic, renuously retainingits its tonal orientation.
