The common characteristic between eastern and western modern art design is that both of them were the result of modern industrialization. However, not only did they originate in different periods, there are also great differences between them in their basis and background, which affected their own means of art design education. As a whole, the material and ideological base of western modern art design education is more mature, and it is the production of western industry civilization, the result of western modern design campaign, and an inexorable trend of the development of western modern art education. So it has a strong trend of social improvement, an integrated education conception, and the cooperation between college and business. Meanwhile, it displays the high degree of identity between theory and practice, and the coexistence of various forms of education. On the other hand, the early Chinese modern art design education, as its matrix for growing-up ------ the modernization of economy, politics and culture, came into being after the strong impulsion of capitalism. Although it is the result of both internal and external factors, it is the external cause that plays a key part. So breaking away from traditional art education, the Chinese modern art design education originated in the late Qing dynasty sprouted on the basis of the undeveloped social economy, politics and culture, which caused conceptual pragmatism, simple imitation of forms, and the separation between art and technique.From the above analysis and comparison, we can understand that art design education is the production of high industrialization, and is closely related with social science and technology, economy and the promotion of living conditions. This is also an innate characteristics and rule of it. Therefore, we should lay emphasis on the laws of social development and marked-oriented economy, make clear the purpose and content of art design education, set up scientific education system, thus serve for the development of national economy better. This may have an inspiration on the reform of Chinese art design education.
