The sentence"Cha dianr + (mei) VP"in modern Chinese especially in spoken Chinese is the use of high frequency, and is a controversial academic issues. As between the form and the meaning there is no one-to-one relationship, but there is a very special and complex linkage. In order to accurately understand and grasp this sentence, it is necessary to straighten out the relationship between the form and the meaning. For previous research on the"Cha dianr + (mei) VP"sentence, Predecessors mostly focused on the study of modern Chinese. This paper will try to from the perspective of the history of language development, and adopt the of research methods of combining diachronic and synchronic, and Putonghua and dialects, and the integrated use of cognitive psychology and the markedness theory, to in-depth analysis the relationship between form and meaning of the sentence"Cha dianr + (mei) VP"and to find the causes and rules of the complex relationship.According to the article of Mr. Zhu Dexi, this paper firstly summarized six basic forms of the sentence"Cha dianr + (mei) VP"in Modern Chinese. In accordance with the markedness theory, we concluded: in the asymmetry of affirmative form and negative form, the affirmative form is unmarked, the negative form is marked; in the asymmetry of affirmative meaning and negative meaning of negative form, the affirmative meaning is unmarked, the negative meaning is marked.Then finding out the commen feature of the"VP"part in the six basic forms, and based on this feature, the development process of the sentence"Cha dianr + (mei) VP"include three basic phases: cha dianr + unsatisfactory events -> cha dianr + mei + wishful events / cha dianr + wishful events -> cha dianr + mei + unsatisfactory events. In accordance with the markedness theory, in the asymmetry of satisfactory events and unsatisfactory events, unsatisfactory events are unmarked, satisfactory events are marked. The sentence"Cha dianr + (mei) VP"means that some event did not happen but once be very close to some abnormal state (most of this abnormal state means bad, a few also means good).At last with the relevant corpus in ancient Chinese and dialects the development mechanism of the sentenceis elucidated.
