Ye Xie "poem" Study

The Origin of Poetry,is considered as the most logical and systematic work of literary theory after The Literary Mind and the Carving of Dragons.Therefore,it is not only a work of literary theory,but also of aesthetic appreciation.The introduction mainly deals with Ye's family background,his life experience and its influence on Ye's ideas.Through research on the situation of the intellectual circle at the end of Ming dynasty and the beginning of Qing dynasty,I find out how he began to write The Origin Of Poetry.The main body consists of four parts:The first part discusses the three elements in poetry creation,namely Principle, Matter and Form.For aesthetic appreciation,the aesthetic object should synthesize the poet's Form.Ye Xie stipulated the specific property of aesthetic object and subject. Concerned to the object,the Principle was "cannot speak",the Matter was "cannot see",and the Form was "cannot manifest".He also demanded that the aesthetic subject should "imply the principle,obscure the form and imagine the matter", attached great importance to aesthetic images in appreciation and stressed the creativity of aesthetic subject.The second Part was on the aesthetic subject With regard to the subject,Ye Xie's essential requirement was"sense",including aesthetic cognition and expression, aesthetic perception,imagination,and feelings.He divided it into"talent,courage, knowledge,and character.Sence includes the four elements,at the same time the four elements comprise and influence sense.The third Part discussed Poetry criticism theory with changing as it's core.Ye Xie profoundly combed and discussed the inevitability of the changing of poetry and the more and more good trend of development.As for criticism form,The Origin Of Poetr presents the dual-ethics morals criticism form of respects Du Fu and takes Tao Yuanming as the ancestor and the easthetic criticism form with Boundary as it's core.The fourth Part concerning the Historical contribution of The Origin of Poetry. The Origin of Poetry inherits the essence and abandons the dregs of all the past poetics On this basis,he established his own poetic theories.Apart from that,The Origin of Poetry presents a relatively complete set of esthetics system.It symbolizes that the Chinese Materialist Easthics came to a new level.
