As a kind of ideology, religion had an important influence on the Iranian diplomacy after the Islamic Revolution. The Islamic Revolution happened in 1979 was a watershed of Iranian diplomacy in the 70s and 80s of the 20th century. The Pahlavi Regime before the Revolution implemented an America-depended foreign policy, tried to use the support and assistance from America as the resort of being a regional power in the Middle East, as the Persian Gulf Gendarmerie of America, and also uniquely established a fine diplomatic relationship with Israel in the Middle East. The Islamic Revolution overthrew the monarch rule of Pahlavi, the Iranian religion leader Khomeini turned Iran to a theocratic country, after the Revolution, Iran implemented a revolutionary foreign policy with distinct Islamic characteristic. The Iran-America and Iran-Israel relationships deteriorated. Iran took itself as the center of the Islamic world, implemented the Revolution Exportation positively, which also deteriorated the relationship between Iran and its Arabian neighbor countries, and the Iran-Iraq War is an extreme result of the Revolution Exportation. In the series of transformation, Khomeini took the religion as a guide of the domestic and foreign policies, shows the trend of Iranian foreign policies to the Islamic Fundamentalism, and as a means to promote the national interest.
