The traditional Chinese philosophy Yin-yang and wu hsing (five elements) remarks cyan as a propitious and lucky color, which is in correspondence with spring, east, wood, and liver. Blue and White Porcelain is highly evaluated as National Porcelain. In Jingde Town's traditional pottery and porcelain decoration art, Blue and White decoration is the most outstanding. It contains ancient people's graciousness and elegance, and it is the succession and token of Chinese peoples'spirit. In the past few years, Blue and White has been drawing more and more attentions, with people's increasing passion on pottery and porcelain artwork.However, from the viewpoint of history, any art that hopes to survive must be open to people, develop continuously, and be comprehensive. As far as Blue and White decoration in China at present is concerned, it seems that Blue and White decoration fails to develop continuously due to the traditional decoration style and technique and is drifting in modern life style and intense competition. It is really necessary to seek a proper way of development for the traditional pottery and porcelain decoration. It is no wonder that Blue and White decoration will get into a dilemma and even vanish from our society if no effort is made to accomplish innovations in topic-picking, picture composition, decoration techniques etc.This article attempts to probe into how to achieve succession and innovation under the background that economy, culture and science and technology are developing rapidly to indicate the unique cultural value and significance of existence through studying the history of Blue and White Porcelain and the factors influencing its development.
