English Translation Of Technical Documentation From Functional Translation Theory

Great importance has been attached to the translation of technical documentations, due to the accelerated pace of internationalization and, as a result, the increasing international focus of many multinational corporations. By reviewing several functionalist approaches to translation, and studying the grammatical, linguistic and cultural features of English technical text, this thesis looks into the functional transmission in the translation process of English technical documentations into Chinese. Technical writing standards are suggested to be incorporated into the translation of English technical documents into Chinese, and a translator needs to make necessary adjustments to the translated text from the perspective of the function and goal of a technical text, in an effort to preserve the original functions of the source text, while presenting user-friendliness in the translated text.
