Practice Report On The C-E Translation Of Technical Documentation Under The Guidance Of Technical Writing Principles

This is a practice report based on the translator's practice in the project of C-E translation of technical documentation from Shenzhen Huawei Offshore Shipping Transport Company from July to October in 2016.The report aims at seeking effective solutions to the problems encountered in the practice under the guidance of technical writing principles.Communication effects are discussed and typical cases failing to communicate information effectively and efficiently are listed from linguistic and contextual level,and methods and techniques are suggested accordingly.Difficulties discussed in the report involve problems concerning accuracy and conciseness,problems in translating long/complicated sentences and long paragraphs,and according solutions suggested involve being sensitive to specialized knowledge,seeking precision and conciseness in word choosing,dividing long sentences by breaking sentences at proper positions and using lists,structuring paragraphs clearly,using parallel structure,adding contextual information and filtering redundant information.The report is expected to improve the readability of technical translation,draw attention to the C-E translation of technical documentation in light of technical writing principles and to inspire interest in this area of study.
