Wall Paintings in Ancient Tombs are of great importance in ancient painting techniques and history for reflecting the forms of burial of the time as while as revealing the ancient social custom, cultural preservation, and art creations, etc. There are many mural paintings of Liao and Jin Dynasties founded with thin brickwork base which could not be treated on the spot ,considering their maximum safety, the preservation needs to move the tomb paintings by cutting the bases into room for reparations and conservation work.Although there are lots of experiences on tomb paintings preservation, the base of the paintings are different. The existing base supporting techniques are for the plant, thick based, and the paintings which separated from the walls, but it has problems when the paintings are arc, thin based, or needed to remove with their original wall bracings. By makes up data, investigate professionals and testing the materials, this article apprises the physical & chemical specialty and technical problems of the following materials: The bracing materials used on cut-down paintings including gypsum, cement, wood keel, angle iron, aluminum alloy model materials, honey-comb composite materials, etc. The base reinforcing and repairing materials including gypsum, cement, lime plaster, etc. The adhesive fabric materials for base reinforces including: flax cloth, fiber glass fabric, etc. The mucilage including japans, epoxy resin,acrylic emulsion etc.Then, make a summary about the material selection of the supporting preservation for tomb paintings. Based on the data mentioned above and an excise on arc-wall-painting, this article designs a system of carbon fiber and polymer mortar, which is more strong, easy operated, and easy molded, to meet the need of the real situation of the arc paintings separated with their brick bases, and make an example of using in arc-wall-painting to show the techniques.
