| As we know, the black is considered as one of the important parts in American demography and play an irreplaceable role in American society. The mixed black, as part of the components of the black, their special blood descent and position, plus embarrassed status make them marginally in society, besides blur the cultural identity. This dissertation applies the postcolonial theory combined with Lacan's theory of mirror phase, via series of the mixed black images in Morrison's novel, discussing the cultural identity of the marginally mixed black, and analyzing the confused choice of the mixed black cultural identity from the social, history and psychology background: First of all, in this dissertation, based on the attitude between American white mainstream society and the black community plus the saying right from white, analyzed the embarrassed situation of mixed black that cannot be accepted by neither white nor black, finally come to the conclusion that this is the social reason that makes them cultural identification confusion. Secondly, based on the behaviors that the mixed black pretend to be white, consider themselves as white, discriminate the black and willing to marry with white, discussed the psychological reasons that cause the mixed black cultural identification confusion, therefore come to the conclusion that the basic reason of their confusion is coming from the override and extrusion of the "others in mirror" white culture to black culture. Lastly, the point of view that the mixed black is the "cultural orphan hood" based on the difficult choice for their identification between white and black culture comes out. Because this independent "cultural orphanhood" identity, the mixed black desires to seek the final settlement of their cultural identification. However, it is not the right attitude to emphasize the leading position of either white culture or black culture unilaterally. Therefore, this dissertation agrees with the theory of Morrison's cultural integration between white and black plus the ethnic prosperously, and it is the ideal solution for solve the problem of the mixed black cultural identification confusion and end the against between white and black culture for long period. |
