As a novel which has complex contents, "Chitchat of An Old Fellow in the Sun" has been always looked down upon since it was written. The Scholars also didn't pay enough attention on the novel. But the novel has its own existence value. This paper will study the Confucian ideology of the novel from "respecting Confucianism and eliminating Buddhism and Taoism", "describing all kinds of knowledge", "the ideal female" and "the views on sex and feeling", with a view to making an objective study and evaluation.There are five chapters. The first chapter reorganizes the writer's life, works and traces the ideological background, in order to provide the necessary information for the following study. The second chapter studies what's the "respecting Confucianism and eliminating Buddhism and Taoism" and features that Xia Jingqu respects the Confucianism represented by Confucius and Mengzi, and the Neo-Confucian orthodox thinking, and the main provision thinking is Lu Jiuyuan's philosophy, Buddhism and Taoism. But because of limited awareness, this aspiration can't come true. The third chapter studies the knowledge described in the novel, the cause and significance of describing so much knowledge in the novel. Concludes it has information value and unique aesthetic significance. The fourth Chapter combines with the author's life and thinking of the novel points out that his ideological female is sacred mother and good wives. The fifth Chapter analysis's the reason why the author esteems the Confucian concept of sex, hate homosexual behavior and indulging in sexual pleasure. The author points out that indulging in sex life is bad thing, and the only purpose of sex life is growth.
