Taking the famous poem Everlasting Regret by Bai Juyi as a starting point and five dramas written from the Yuan Dynasty to the 1940s as the representatives, the thesis makes a anatomize and intercomparison of these works, all with the same subject matter about Li Longji and Yang Yuhuan, from four aspects: the dramatic conflict, the plot structure, the character image and the role configuration. It also describes the evolvement of the subjects of these works from ancient to modern (especially the individual self-awareness presented in the subjects) and comes to a conclusion as follows: against the advantage of group, the individual self-awareness in the subject evolution has undergone the stages from spontaneous establishment in a sensible way to the negative sublimation on account of the norms of polity and ethic, as well as individuality awakening possessing with modern connotation, and finally moved towards profound in the contradiction of sense and sensibility.
