Color had been playing a vital role in traditional Chinese painting, but then it has gradually changed into ink color under the influence of ancient Chinese elites. Albeit "replacing color with ink" could be seen as a developing leap in terms of painting technique, however, placing the emphasis more on ink has simplified the plurolism of the colorful Chinese paintings. During its long evolutive history, parochial aesthetics and limited palette had led to the decrescence of expressing color languages in Chinese paintings, which has inevitably confined the space of applying color emotion and imagination in Chinese paintings. Therefore, proposing the recognition of color creation in Chinese paintings is becoming more meaningful in the contemporary culture context."The Research on color creation in contemporary Chinese Paintings" will demonstrate and elaborate my understandings in four different perspectives: 1, modality of color expression in traditional Chinese painting; 2, the inspiration from the color in modern western paintings; 3, exploring the beauty of blend western and Chinese color expression; 4, Developing color creation in Chinese paintings in the contemporary context. "Modality of color expression in traditional Chinese painting" states how the color theories changed in the period of feudalism before Tang and Song Dynasties to the period of during Tang and Song dynasties."The inspiration from the color in modern western paintings" selects several main art schools that color governs in the western art history, to get enlightenment by listing and comparing their color theories."Exploring the beauty of blending western and Chinese color expression" tells the exchange and collision between China and western from the time period of the end of Ming Dynasty and the beginning of Qing Dynasty when western painting techniques first has been taught in China and combination of western and Chinese painting techniques has gotten around, to the emergence of "Sea School" in Qing Dynasty, to the color revolution of "using western techniques to embellish Chinese paintings", transited in time up to now to the color creation in contemporary Chinese paintings, to further proof that intervention of western painting is the main cause that led to the fundamental changes of color creation in Chinese paintings."Developing color creation in Chinese paintings in the contemporary context" illustrates why I propose "color creation" should be an indispensable essential issue for contemporary Chinese painters, also foreshows the unlimited development space and potential of Chinese paintings. Moreover, it will analyze color creation from the points of views of re-cognition of materials, color setting and color education of Chinese painting. It proposes that color creation for Chinese paintings has to stand on the angle of spanning histories, through colligating, accumulating, absorbing and consummating different color theories from all countries and peoples in the past. Furthermore, exploring the possibility of unknown colors while endue them with higher spiritual connotation, is the veriest way to have the breakthrough and indicate the true value of colors in paintings.
