Du Fu Literature Thought

DuFu is a great poet and critic in Chinese ancient literature history. Most of his literary thoughts reflected in his poems, though in bits and pieces, have profoundly shown his literary opinions and the transforming process of the poem style in Tang dynasty, which becomes a predominant trend in the literature criticism history. There were not only some particular researches which obtained abundant conclusions, but also some limitations in the method and content, mainly in the following two aspects: First, the eyeshot was not wide enough. Second, the studies were not so elaborated, which mainly focused on the great matters and famous poems in DuFu's literary critic, but few from other aspects. Based on it, this article particularly chooses three important matters which has been neglected before as a cut-in point, and looks into DuFu's literary thoughts and its inheritance, as well as the development of the traditional literature while combining the relevant literary criticism of the former dynasties. The whole article is divided into three chapters:The first chapter " DuFu's overview on QuYuan and SongYu " looks back into the Chu-Ci studies and analyses some of DuFu's scattered comments on the works of QuYuan and SongYu, and then concludes that DuFu's overview on QuYuan and SongYu had both inheritance and innovation of the previous studies. It was reflected by there aspects: Firstly, his overview followed the traditional appellation of LiSao and QuSong, which showed the worship and confirmation to QuYuan and SongYu's talents and works, but differed in some details; Secondly, regarding to the biases over QuSong's works especially Licai, DuFu not only rebutted it but also further confirmed QuSong's ideas, thereby showing a poetics view of a parallel importance between trope and content.Chapter two "DuFu's overview on literary transformation" mainly discusses DuFu's opinion on inheritance and innovation. To better illustrate this, the article compares the overview of literary transformation between DuFu and Liu Xie from two perspectives, that is, literature's inheritance and development, the article style's zheng and bian, which reflects the content of Overview of style transformation and his transformation of the previous studies.Chapter three "DuFu's overview on word and meaning" analyses DuFu's relevant poem comments by combining the relations among word meaning and imago. From the relations between word and meaning, DuFu mainly absorbed the Confucian thoughts, admitting word has certain defects, but did his best to pursue "few words show ultimate meaning" and emphasized a lot on writing through refining thousand times and kept enhancing the expressive force of word, and reduced the gap between word and meaning at most; From the perspective of imago trope, he inherited the idea of using imago to express and making literary comments by imago trope.
