The Chinese city development situation has been swift and violent since 1990s, which follows the imaginative tradition of modern poetry toward the city and shows an unprecedented writing experience. The distinctive spiritual qualities and individuality manifested are noteworthy. These more diversified and complicated city circumstances and experience have been represented in poems and hence widened the growth space of the so-called city poetry in language, forms and ways of expression. Starting from the angle of the poet's impression on the city and that of his self-examination, this thesis has summarized the characteristics of city poetry which make it different from the previous ones since 1990 on basis of a substantive text reading.It consists of the introduction, main body and the conclusion.In the introductory part through explication of the development of modern Chinese imaginative poetry the basis and significance of the thesis has been reasoned out.Chapter one mainly deals with the rough life and restlessness of spirit of the intruders setting off from the outward observations to the city made by the worker-writers and therefore digs out the values of the work poetry.Chapter two and three emphasize particularly on the inward perceptions of poets toward the city and make a certain comments on the coquetry school and piston poetry group in their effort toward deep exploration and unique representation of city experience by tracing their history.In the closing part, the whole thesis is summed up and the development prospect of city poetry is anticipated.
