After World War II, the status of English as international commonly used language is increasingly strengthened, and it becomes our country's important tool for intercourse and cooperation of economy and technology with foreign countries. With the requirement of the time, more attention has been paid to English Teaching than before. Though, schools,teachers and students have paid more attention to it, the effect of English Teaching isn't very well, the level of student's English can't be satisfactory. In the English Teaching practice, how to collect others'advantages widely, bring the advantages of different teaching method into playing, let students'English level be improved obviously are the challenges to scholars and teachers.Discourse Analysis is a rising subject, and it opens up a new field-version for English Teaching. It is about 50 years since the terminology called"discourse analysis"was raised by the representative of structuralism named Zelling Harris in 1952. It has been forming slowly one special learning which only studies linguistic use in communication and concerns many different subjects, and absorbs lots of research accomplishments from many different subjects such as linguistics, semiology, psychology, anthropology, sociology, literature and so on. From 1950s there has been a great increase in the amount of research being done by some scholars in the west on text linguistics and a lot of successes have been scored since then as a new independent subject. In China, however, text linguistics has not been gained researching attention fully until 1980s. Therefore, up to now discourse analysis still belongs to the subject which has not been determined the nature; there has not been any unique theory as guidance and not any acknowledgedly analytic steps and methods. However, just because of these different theories and methods, we may adopt the strong points, and use them in teaching. Discourse analysis can be divided into two categories: theoretically and applicably. Domestically, there are lots of researches on its applicability. However, little attention has been paid to New College English Integrated Course. Although Qian Min published an essay in Chengdu University journal in 2008, which referred to the research on the course .However, Qian Min did not probe it into deeply for the sake of the text limitation. Based on the former discourse analysis theory, the essay systematically analyzes the current problems in traditional college English teaching of intensive reading, and calls forth the concretely applicable approach and method of discourse analysis teaching in teaching practice, which involves in a large amount of class teaching trials.This thesis includes six parts: Part I, Introduction. Part II, The literature review of discourse, discourse analysis, and the studying history of discourse, discourse analysis. Part III, Simply introducing the traditional college English Teaching method. Although it has some advantages, it restricts students'comprehension for text, so the author points out that the application of discourse analysis in college English teaching is the solution. Part IV, Putting forward the application of discourse analysis in college English intensive reading. The author picks up two same level classes, makes sure the two classes have same English level before the experiment, no distinctive differences. In the experiment class the author uses the discourse analysis teaching method and points out the specific application of means and manners of discourse analysis using in teaching practice, and it includes the attempts of class teaching. Part V, The result and discussion of the experiment. After the experiment in three terms, the result indicates the English level of experiment class improved significantly and it proves the efficiency of discourse analysis but, at the same time, we should do more research on the discourse analysis, for example, we should enlarge the space and the time of the experiment. Part VI, Conclusion. The author again emphasizes the teaching implication of the application of discourse analysis in college English intensive reading teaching, the author hopes that the thesis can provide some enlightenments for teaching and there are more studies on it.
