In the21st century, the international exchange and cooperation have become morefrequently. As the world common language—English, whose growing importance needs alarge number of talents cross cultural communication. Besides, language is closely related toculture. However, China’s college English teaching is still mainly the cultivation of thestudents’ language knowledge and basic skills of listening and speaking which cannot achievethe communication level for their low cross-cultural communication competence. Thusincreasing their cross-cultural awareness and intercultural ability become a current andimportant issue for college English teaching reform and study.This paper mainly has employed the theory of context of culture to create and apply newmodel in higher vocational English intensive reading teaching to optimize and improve thequality of higher vocational college English teaching, and to improve the students’ interest andenthusiasm in English study, strengthening students’ cultural consciousness and ability ofcross-cultural communication. The focus in this thesis is under the guidance of the theory ofcontext of cultural and schema theory to apply the created teaching model to highervocational intensive reading teaching, and at the same time to do well classroom observationrecords, class feedback records, and orderly to carry out survey questionnaire and relatedculture tests, and finally analyze the data by SPSS13.0.The difficulties of this paper are how to do well with the reliability, validity and thescientific nature of the questionnaires, tests and analyses. During the implementation processthe students need to effectively cooperate with the teacher. Research methods have includedtaking methods of combining quantitative with qualitative, and to be more concretely, itincludes literature and questionnaire method, classroom observation and personal interviewmethod, etc.The third and the fourth part is the core of this paper including the research methods andthe discussion of the results of data analyses. First, to get a general understanding of students’intercultural skills through the questionnaire of social culture test(pre-test). Then, based on thebeforehand information and several researchers’ study and models, the author has created a new teaching model. In order to test whether the model is effective, the author has intended toteach four class who were not major in English and has carried out cultural teachingexperiments before and after the implement of the new model of cultural teaching. The timethat the four classes would take all round about a semester, in other words, four months; andin the end, to deal with statistical analysis and conclusions by making use of the software—spss13.0Many experts have done research upon cultural context from different angles at homeand abroad, but they mainly paid their attention to the research of the theories. Theexperimental studies of the application of cultural context to college English Intensiveteaching is rare. Based upon the above, this thesis will discuss how to do experimentalresearch and blended cultural context into intensive reading teaching effectively in highervocational college English teaching class, and meanwhile impart relevant cultural backgroundknowledge and train students’ skills of cross-cultural communication.However, due to the limitation of time and professional, it was hard to avoid havingsome deficiencies, such as the lab time, and if it were added more time, perhaps it can verifymore effectiveness of the model. In addition, there would be more cultural factors restrictstudents and the teaching materials, and furthermore, its selection and arrangement still needfurther study, which will effectively promote the new college English teaching reform andimprove the connotation construction of teaching English as a foreign language.
