As Documentary Images Of The Tragedy Theme Of Modern Tragedy

As one of the famous forms of Ancient Greek arts,the tragedy has been a typical topic of western aesthetics for a long time.After being born in Ancient Greek about two thousand years ago,the tragedy has changed a lot nowadays and was presented very different from the original tragedy or the tragedies in the past times.Considering the important status of the tragedy in the past,and starting with the key factor which changed little as the tragedy developed,documentary images including the documentary photograph and televised documentary with tragic events,a typical kind of image art which is the most popular and influential art in today's society,was found to be a form of modern tragedy in this thesis.And the emotion influence of the works is especially discussed.Moreover,the thesis found out the significance of the documentary images with tragic events through analyzing several famous documentary works.Its particularity of reality may arouse the emotion of the audience as Aristotle said in Peri Poietikes. In these works,with the image of the real person and real world,the audience get not only the stories of others,but also the life of their own.The works let the audience see the true world around.The poor persons who are suffering from disasters are so similar to the audience outside the camera that they will easily believe the event could happen in their own life,too.It is significant for the audience to realize that they are in the same world with the person and the event told in the documentary image.Finally,the thesis thought that as the catharsis of the modern tragedy,the reality the audience gets in documentary image works and the emotion influence would promote the audience to concentrate on the sufferings told in the documentary or the persons and events alike,and to help to reduce such sufferings.From this aspect,the documentary photograph and televised documentary with tragic stories are not only the modern tragedy,but also the art that promotes the development of the society. However,it is undeniable that as the most influential form of art,it is also an art of overflowing in these days.Since every one can create the documentary image with his own DC or DV,there is an important problem that we should consider next:How can the documentary image works,especially the works with tragic events that we discussed in this thesis keep on emphasizing on the whole time and society,but not the visual impact,through individual events?...
