Research On The Modality Development Of Televised Documentary

This thesis focuses on the Documentary Channel of Shanghai TV and systematically analyses the internal and external environment of the channel. It also introduces the existent situation of the first professional documentary channel in China, and tries to explore the direction and possible breakthrough of its development.The modality development of documentaries is experiencing the process of program-column--channel, which is the inevitable outcome of the marketization of the documentary films. In face of the constant market expansion of outstanding documentaries that are produced by famous foreign documentary companies, domestic documentary channel is a self-dependent arena, and an arm-shop which brings up excellent documentary talents and creates first-class documentaries. This thesis attempts to bring forward new ideas to improve the present situation of domestic documentary channel after careful observation and study.This thesis sorts out the developing process of the formation of domestic documentary, basing on the general situation of the naissance of televised documentary, the process of documentary forming the series and becoming primary column modality, the period of comprehensive prospering of documentary column, the process of exploring of documentary column, the experience of SUNTV changing over to new ways, and the situation of international and domestic documentary market. In addition, it also makes a study of the Documentary Channel, and brings forward feasible solutions to the problems which come forth in the developing process. The Channel Documentary is also explored here,and the outline of a documentary-oriented media development industry is drawn in the thesis.Chinese TV programs and the documentary field need native Discovery, and it is the Documentary Channel and Channel Documentary that can take the responsibility. They represent that the Chinese televised documentary channels are beginning to move towards further exploration, and seeking new ways to debouch the present trough which has continued since the late 1990s. I confidently conclude that they will take the lead in the development of Chinese televised documentary in the 21st century.
