The poem"Shu Jiu"(About Wine) is an important work of Tao Yuanming that reflects his political ideology. It has an exclusive value among Tao's various literary works. Tang Han's"Poems of Mr Tao Jingjie"during the late Southern Song Dynasty is the first detailed elaboration and explanation of"Shu Jiu". A lot of scholars today regard Tang Han as the first scholar to give meaning to"Shu Jiu". However, understanding and explaining"Shu Jiu"did not begin with Tang Han.The understanding and explanation of"Shu Jiu"started with Song Xiang of mid Northern Song. The underlying devious meaning of"Shu Jiu"had raised doubts in Song Xiang,"I think this poem does not reflect its title."Although another scholar Su Shi did not leave behind any direct written document that explains"Shu Jiu", he however was closely related to Chen Xiang and Huang Tingjian. Moreover, it was Su Shi and Zhu Xi's high recommended of Tao Yuanming that eventually gave Tao a sublime status in the eyes of later generations. The writer discovered through research that scholars who elaborated"Shu Jiu"in the mid and later Northern Song Dynasty had a certain level of relationship with Su Shi. It therefore calls for further investigation.Huang Tingjian is the first scholar who recorded the story behind"Shu Jiu". Huang pointed out that"Shu Jiu"has an important status in the history of acceptance but very few people mentioned about it.The two dynasties of Song had adored Su Che. Han Ju who felt the pain of a dying dynasty was first to reveal the reason behind"shan yang xia guo". It pointed out the creation background of"Shu Jiu"–"inspired by Yi Xi". This is an important revelation in the history of acceptance of the poem"Shu Jiu"and this is regarded much earlier than Tang Han's elaboration on Tao Yuanming. It bears a strong inaugural meaning. In Li Gonghuan's"Jian Zhu Tao Yuanming Ji", Zhao Quanshan's commentary explanations of"Shu Jiu"had been used. And in addition, the explanation is found before Tang Han. Based on the writer's initial investigation, Zhao Quanshan was slightly earlier than Tang Han. It is the first time Zhao portrayed the background setting of"Shu Jiu"precisely to the year, i.e."this is the second year of the Emperor Gong of Jin Dynasty, Yuan Xi"and"murder of the emperor on the ninth month of next year". Furthermore, it is also the first time that"Shu Jiu"is said to have been written to scorn the murderous act of Liu Yu. This perspective is therefore used to understand the various complicated poems of Tao Yuanming. Zhao Quanshan's revelation provides later generations an invaluable opinion towards Tao's various works. This paper is the first in the history of the study of Tao Yuanming to discover and investigate people like Zhao Quanshan, which further points out their important status in reading and elaborating Tao's collection. In the study of acceptance on"Shu Jiu"before Tang Han, it involved Chen Xiang and the argument of reliability of Huang Tingjian's historical documents and information; the re-beginning of Tao Yuanming's Collection"Chen Shu Gu Ben"(loosely translated as"Narrating Ancient Books"); and a series of issues like important relationship of the integrity of Huang Tingjian's elaboration of"Shu Jiu"and Tao's Collection"Su Xie Ben". And, these questions had bring about different levels of important discoveries.Mr Chen Yunque had pointed out that"the evolution of cultural history of the Chinese people in the past thousands of years was a tremendous result of Zhao-Song Dynasty."Although the research in the writer's paper is only limited to the acceptance of the poem"Shu Jiu"before Tang Han, but it has already reflected obscurely the collective hard work of the group of scholars in the Song Dynasty on the road of humanity studies, as well as their outstanding contributions.
