Northern Song Dynasty Scholar Zhao Xiang

Zhao Xiang is a quite famous literati in the early Song Dynasty.He is the representative poet in "the style of Late Tang poetry"(晚唐体),and is also one of the pioneers about "the ancient prose movement"(古文运动)in the Song Dynasty.Zhao Xiang is contributed to the development of the poetry and the ancient prose movement in the Song Dynasty.But he has been neglected by academicians for a long time.For this reason,the thesis first probes some puzzles in his life,such as the year of birth and death,the situation Of Keju,his whereabouts and the friendship. The thesis basically outlines Zhao Xiang's whole life.As to the part of Zhao Xiang's poems in the The Collection of Poems in the Song Dynasty(《全宋诗》),the editor wrongly collects other poets' poetry.On this basis,the thesis analyzes content of Zhao Xiang's poems and essays,as well as the creation of theory,its features and achievements.The content of Zhao Xiang's poetry is mostly about natural and soul.It reflects a sincere inner world about this solitary poor scholar and the unique spiritual pursuits in the early Song Dynasty.As the representative of "the style of Late Tang poetry",Zhao Xiang not only inherits it,but also develops it.Zhao Xiang integrates the smooth and simplicity of "the style of Bai poetry"(白体)with the meticulous of "the style of Late Tang poetry".At last,he formed a fresh poetry style.It is a unique poetry in the earlY Song Dynasty.About Prose Writing,Zhao Xiang advocates to retro and learning the ancient prose of Han Yu(韩愈)and Liu Zongyuan(柳宗元)who were the literati in Tang Dynasty.Zhao Xiang opposes the humble prose style in the Five Dynasties(五代)and removes the dual style.His proses are good at comment.In a word,Zhao Xiang has made profound contribution to "the ancient prose movement" in the early Song Dynasty.
