The research of this thesis is based on the article "Confucius's Review on Poetry" embodied in "Bamboo Slips of Chu Kingdom from the Warring States Period Stored in Shanghai Museum Volume One".The first part of this thesis put further investigation and discussion on the compilation and system of bamboo manuscripts and the interpretation of ancient Chinese characters based on current research. We try to rearrange the order of the bamboo slips from "Confucius's Review on Poetry" according to the system and text of the bamboo slips. Moreover,we estimate the formation of partly-written bamboo slips and obtain three conclusions about our attitude towards partly-written bamboo slips.Firstly, the blank space should be complemented with charaters.Secondly, the arrangement of fully-written bamboo slips and partly-written bamboo slips need not to be separated.Thirdly, regarding partly-written bamboo slips as a kind of system results from our uniform illusion on the understanding about partly-written bamboo slips.By comparing the unearthed materials from the Warring States, which is investigated by the author of this thesis, and the Four Schools of the Book of Songs in Han Dynasties,we can correct and enhance our knowledge about the poetics in Pre-Qin and Two Hans Dynasty. Also, this can show the real and detailed visage of the poetics in Pre-Qin and Two Hans Dynasty.By comparing the unearthed article "Confucius's Review on Poetry" and the Four Schools of the Book of Songs,we found that other than traditional utilitarianisms, the comment towards the gist of the songs made by "Confucius's Review on Poetry" are accurate and precise. The method that Confucius comments on songs in terms of affection does not exist in the documents we have in the past. The characteristic of attaching great importance on affection can also be found in the article "Disposition Rooted in Fate" which is written in similar period of time. The characteristics of commenting the Book of Songs of "Confucius's Review on Poetry" can be summarized in three aspects.1."Commenting on the Classic of Poetry in terms of affection".It affirms the affection value in the songs and suggests that poems should express author's emotion.2."Commenting on the Classic of Poetry in terms of propriety".It recommends the affection of poems should be confined by morals and propriety reasonably.Commenting on the the Book of Songs pays equal attention on affection and propriety and the latter is based on the former.3."Commenting on the Classic of Poetry in terms of the gist of the poem".It suggests that the comments on the Book of Songs should be based on the gist of the poem and hence it can grasp the gist of the poem more accurately. This kind of commenting style is totally different from the Four Schools of the Book of Songs in Han Dynasty which object against the affection of human nature and emphasis on the political and historial event. The feature of commenting the Book of Songs of "Confucius's Review on Poetry" is emphasis on both affection and propriety. Therefore, the two famous sentences "poetry were composed to express the author's aspiration" and "poetry were composed to express the author's affection" are not two mutually exclusive independent marks or clear classification criteria. The fact is that different period of time does pay attention on both aspiration and affection but with more emphasis on one of them.
