As a combination of feminism and environmentalism, eco-feminism originated in 1970s, a literary critical theory initiated by Francois d'Eaubonne. With the target of emancipating women and nature, eco-feminism criticizes patriarchy involving the themes of nature, women and development. Feminine culture and principles are praised to work as a part of solving the environmental problems. This paper analyzes Gone with the Wind and Sister Carrie from the perspective of eco-feminism. In spite of the fact that they were written by different writers at different times, they both show women's lives under the pressure of patriarchy. This paper focuses on contrasting and analyzing the female characters and dividing them into two groups based on their behavior under the pressure of patriarchy: Female Fighter and Angel in the House. At the same time, a comparison of their final destinies is made. Then an analysis of the reason why women are oppressed and what leads to their tragic fate is made from the perspective of eco-feminism. Finally this paper focuses on the practical significance of women and nature's tragic destinies in combination with contemporary society, and criticizes the appositionally dualistic thinking mode, value concept of hierarchy and ruling logic in the patriarchal society, thus urges people to rebuild the world by feminism and integral ecological principle. Finally harmonious coexistence between human and nature can be achieved.
